How to Use the Free Online File Comparison Tool
Basic Usage
- Paste content or upload a file for the Left Side
- Paste content or upload a file for the Right Side
- Select the appropriate file format for each side (Text, JSON, XML)
- Set your comparison options if needed
- Click Compare Files to see differences highlighted
Comparison Options
- Ignore Whitespace: Disregards spaces, tabs, and line breaks during comparison
- Case Sensitive: When checked, uppercase and lowercase letters are treated as different
- View Type: Choose between line-by-line view or side-by-side comparison

- Use the Maximize button (expand icon) to work with larger content blocks
- For code comparison, select the appropriate format to get syntax highlighting
- Line numbers are displayed to help you locate differences in longer files
- Toggle between view types to find the comparison style that works best for your content
- The comparison results automatically highlight specific character differences within lines
